8. Employers to train employees  [select from list below]

The Occupational Health and Safety Act No. 85 of 1993 [abridged] requires that:

[1] Every employer shall provide and maintain a working environment that is safe and without risk to the health of his employees.
[2]
[a] Provide and Maintain systems that are safe and without risks to health;
[b] take steps to eliminate or mitigate hazards or potential hazard;
[c] make arrangements to ensure the safety and absence of risks to health
[d] establish, what hazards to the health or safety of persons exist in his business,
establish what precautionary measures should be taken
provide the necessary means to apply such precautionary measures;
[e] Provide:
1. INFORMATION
2. INSTRUCTIONS
3. TRAINING and
4. SUPERVISION
as may be necessary to ensure the health and safety of his employees;
[f] Not permit any work unless the precautionary measures have been taken;
[g] take all necessary measures to ensure that the requirements of this Act are complied with
[h] enforce such measures as may be necessary
[i] ensure that work is performed under the general supervision of a person TRAINED to understand the hazards and who has the authority to ensure that precautionary measures are implemented
[j] cause all employees to be INFORMED regarding the scope of their authority
